Obsessed with tecnology? Rant #1

Come to think of it, what was life like before you rushed home everyday to check your facebook, flicking through people's profiles, writing your facebook status about goodness knows what, stalking photos online and spamming people's walls? Before texting day after day after night after night, and playing on your own 'iphones' or 'itouches', the 'latest and most advanced 'gadgets of the 21st century? Although maybe I don't have a place to say something about it, (Yes, shamefully I had facebook before), I do have strong views on this topic. I don't even know where to begin (although I've already begun?) but anyway, I'm just going to rant on and hopefully all of you follow.
I've recently deactivated facebook and even though everyone tells me I should activate it again I feel that there is no point in doing so. Although there are some advantages like connecting with people you don't talk and meet on a regular basis and sharing photos of the sort, I find that the disadvantages and the things I really don't support on facebook just outweigh the positives.
1) Connecting with people you don't talk to on a regular basis
To be honest, we're in highschool. I don't need to connect with other people that don't 1) go to my school , I see them at least 5 times a week! (for bianca and sarah, 6 times a week!) 2) go to northshore, chinese school, drama, etc. (once a week is already a regular basis and I feel that contacting them through facebook just seems a bit desperate)
3) Sharing photos
Yes, sharing photos is a great way to show what you did over the holidays ( My great European trip! :D ), parties etc. however, I see my friends (I reiterate this) 5 times a week. No photo needs to show me what they look like. and okay, maybe I don't get to show you guys my 800+ photos (heeheehee) but I don't want to take risks on sharing my privacy over the internet. Although you can say " They have private settings! Just put your profile on 'private'!" It's not that simple. Advanced technology have led to people seeing everything - even things you don't want on facebook. If you read the terms and conditions (although I don't..and I'm quite sure none of you do anyway) You'll find some things surprising that you never knew.
Also - facebook is a waste of time! I've realised that , ever since I got facebook, my grades have deteriorated and it's corrupted my way of thinking, not to mention the things I'll talk about, and my actions. It's pointless for one to write " happy birthday!" on someone's profile but not saying it face to face. Then what's the point?! People have immersed themselves into a world where no one says anything - they just type! *type type type type type* (yes..ironically I'm typing too. however that's not the point) It's so easy for one to communicate through means of technology, but over the years - it's just been overrated! How sad is it to be someone who can't face society..face-to-face!? (haha.)
To be honest, no - I don't want to see all the notifications and read all the pointless comments on status' & photos. I don't want to see how 'tight' you and some other person are by writing continuously on eachothers walls and spamming my news feed. It doesn't make me think ' wow you guys are really tight!' . It's the opposite.

And onto the issue of mobile phones and the latest gadgets of the 21st century? Although it's great to have a phone - it can be used for an emergency and to tell someone to HURRY UP! (sarah..;D ) and everything, (I mean, that's fine. In fact - I just got a new sim card! :D but..same old dodgy phone..) But it goes way out of hand when one is clearly too fascinated in the text they just recieved and not paying attention to their surroundings. Sure, it's great to text once in while. But if this means texting all the time..I simply cannot disagree more. Like (okay here comes the example) when I went overseas to travel Europe, I deleted facebook, I didn't contact anyone, I didn't go on msn or do anything of the sort. So when I got back , Steph (c) said that it seemed as if I didn't exist anymore! (hahaha you silly goose :) I didn't have a facebook page to 'soak up my presence' and you couldn't talk to me through internet communications! Which goes to show how immersed our generation is in the world of technology.
Although I might be a hypocrite and have no place to rant on about this issue, I've decided I have got to stop. I've got to break out of this barrier and into reality. In reality, when we're adults, no ones going to check if you like 'justin bieber' on facebook(excuse my pathetic example) IN fact, if you spend too much time on the internet, you're going to get no where in life!
I'll leave you to answer that question for yourself,
and hopefully I've explained to those who have asked me "why did you deactivate facebook?!"
SO wow! I've..posted quite a long post. But I really hope that you guys really take a minute to think about what I've said and no, I'm not saying you have to deactivate facebook like me or anything (I just do that to control myself because I know that if I deactivate it, I'll just be helpless anyway) or quit msn, or bash your computer (AKJHDFKL), because maybe that's taking a step too far.. ;)
P.S. I've decided to post on a topic once in while to really exercise my fingers( run run run) - no i'm joking, and to get my brain tic-tocking :D but also, and most importantly, to give helpful advice and to express my view on specific issues. AND also to give a chance for me to use those english skills (when i want to ) and not just using them for those dreaded essays.
thanks everyone! for those who've read this from top to bottom... i congragulate you :) well done!
